Background

Parbattya Protibondhi Kollyan Songsta (PPKS) is a non-profit, non-political, and non-government organization founded in 2001 to advance the rights, dignity, and socio-economic empowerment of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) of Bangladesh. The organization is legally registered with the Department of Social Services, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

As a proud member of the Bangladesh DPO Coalition, PPKS plays a vital role in representing and strengthening the voices of persons with disabilities in the CHT. Through this coalition, the organization works in close coordination with local Disabled People’s Organizations (DPOs) and Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) to ensure meaningful participation, rights protection, and inclusive development at both district and divisional levels.

Operating primarily in Rangamati, with extended activities in Khagrachari and Bandarban, PPKS serves one of the most remote and marginalized regions of Bangladesh. This culturally diverse area—home to Chakma, Marma, Tripura, Mro, Tanchanga, Pankho, Chak, Lushai, Khumi, and Bengali communities—faces long-standing socio-economic challenges, with persons with disabilities experiencing compounded exclusion.

To improve the socio-economic conditions of persons with disabilities through education, advocacy, rehabilitation, skill development, and inclusive community participation.

• Advocacy & Rights Promotion – Advancing disability rights and social justice at local and national levels.

• ICT Literacy & Training – Equipping PWDs with digital skills to enhance employability.

• Health & Sanitation Services – Providing community health initiatives, safe water, and sanitation facilities.

• Skill Development Training (SDT) – Offering technical and vocational training for sustainable livelihoods.

• Income-Generating Activities (IGA) – Promoting entrepreneurship and small enterprise development.

• Women & Adolescent Empowerment – Targeted programs to empower women and adolescents with disabilities.

Impact & Approach

As a member of the Bangladesh DPO Coalition, PPKS has established itself as both a service provider and an advocate for disability inclusion in the Hill Tracts. By combining rehabilitation, education, advocacy, and livelihood opportunities, PPKS has empowered hundreds of persons with disabilities to contribute meaningfully to their families and communities. Its work reduces poverty, raises awareness on disability rights, and promotes inclusive development across the CHT.
