
SATKHIRA: সুবর্ণ নাগরিক উন্নয়ন সংস্থা খুলনা বিভাগের প্রতিবন্ধী ব্যক্তিদের উন্নয়নে নিবেদিত একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ সংস্থা। এটি বাংলাদেশ ডিপিও কোয়ালিশন কর্তৃক দায়িত্ব হিসাবে খুলনা বিভাগের প্রতিবন্ধীদের উন্নয়নে জেলা ভিত্তিক ডিপিও ও ওপিডি দের সঙ্গে সমন্বয় রেখে প্রকল্প বাস্তবায়ন করছে। স্থানীয় ডিপিও ও ওপিডি সমূহের সঙ্গে কাজ করে প্রতিবন্ধীদের অধিকার সুরক্ষা, সামাজিক অন্তর্ভুক্তি এবং ক্ষমতায়নমূলক কার্যক্রম বাস্তবায়ন করছে।

Introduction
Suborno Nagorik Unnoyon Songstha (SNUS) is a social welfare non-profit voluntary organization of persons with disabilities, working as a member of the Bangladesh DPO Coalition. Since its founding in 2014, SNUS has been committed to the rights, empowerment, and inclusion of persons with disabilities (PWDs), particularly in the climate-vulnerable region of Satkhira under Khulna Division.
The organization actively addresses climate change impacts, disability rights, health, income-generating activities (IGAs), education, and social empowerment through awareness programs, training, advocacy campaigns, seminars, rallies, and collaborative initiatives with local DPOs and OPDs.

To build an inclusive and sustainable society where persons with disabilities live with dignity, equal opportunities, and full participation.
Mission
To mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change on persons with disabilities, strengthen their capacity through education, training, and sports, and provide both financial and technical support to ensure empowerment, accessibility, and inclusion.

Major Objectives
a) Advocate and research on the impacts of climate change on PWDs.
b) Ensure inclusive education, health services, and physiotherapy for PWDs.
c) Build skills and provide vocational training for employment and income generation.

e) Provide assistive devices and inclusive services for students with disabilities.
f) Support women with disabilities through legal aid and rights-based programs.
g) Enhance disaster preparedness, relief, and rehabilitation for PWDs.
h) Establish inclusive livelihood initiatives such as cottage industries and IGAs.
i) Promote afforestation, environmental conservation, and sustainable practices.

Achievements
Formation of 20 self-help groups (17 in Kaliganj, 3 in Shyamnagar) for PWD empowerment.
Skill development programs: computer literacy, IGA, and leadership training.
Advocacy for accessible toilets in shelter homes through campaigns and policy dialogue.
Collaboration with Smile Train for cleft palate/lip surgeries for PWDs.
Distribution of 65 assistive devices (wheelchairs, crutches, white canes, etc.).
Education support to 138 PWDs including stipends and coaching.
Legal aid programs for women with disabilities in 12 villages across Satkhira.
Emergency food support during COVID-19 and Eid-ul-Azha, benefitting over 300 PWDs.
Environmental programs: tree plantation, awareness, and community forestry.
Governance & Management
General Body (GB): Holds annual meetings and approves plans/budgets.
Executive Committee (EC): 9 members, elected for 2 years, guides program implementation.
Advisory Council: Provides strategic guidance and community-level influence.
Staff & Volunteers: 1 temporary staff, 5 volunteers.
The organization maintains transparent financial systems, with annual audits by government-recognized audit firms.

As a member of the Bangladesh DPO Coalition, SNUS implements disability rights, empowerment, and climate resilience projects across Khulna Division. Working in collaboration with local DPOs and OPDs, SNUS ensures that disability inclusion is mainstreamed in education, health, livelihoods, disaster management, and policy advocacy at district and divisional levels.
